Cyrus Vance Jr. is an American attorney who served as the District Attorney of New York County (Manhattan) from 2010 to 2021. Born in 1954, he is the son of Cyrus Vance Sr., who served as U.S. Secretary of State under President Jimmy Carter. Vance Jr. earned his law degree from Georgetown University and worked in private practice before becoming a public prosecutor.
As Manhattan DA, Vance Jr. oversaw significant cases involving white-collar crime, cybercrime, and high-profile criminal prosecutions. He implemented reforms such as reducing incarceration rates for non-violent offenses and expanding the use of technology in the justice system. Vance also played a key role in the investigation of former President Donald Trump’s finances.
Vance’s tenure was marked by efforts to modernize the office and address systemic issues within the criminal justice system. He chose not to seek re-election in 2021.
