A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1896–1977) was a prominent Indian spiritual leader and the founder-acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), commonly known as the Hare Krishna movement. Born Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami in Calcutta, India, he was a disciple of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, a leading figure in the Gaudiya Vaishnavism tradition.
